In a recent interview, Selena Gomez tackled the question of whether she’d ever have children or not. Her response led some netizens down a rabbit hole where some linked her answer to her famous ex-boyfriend’s exciting announcement with his wife.
Selena Gomez, 31, has fans in a frenzy after an interview she did was published on May 29, 2024. During the sitdown, she revealed that she planned to adopt at age 35 if she hadn’t met the right person by then.
She disclosed that the idea came to her after she’d been single for a while. However, things soon changed when her boyfriend came into her life. For those who don’t know, the musician is dating Benny Blanco, a songwriter and producer.

Following the interview, publications ran with the story, and fans replied with confusion. One person asked, “Is she pregnant (sic),” while another confused person questioned, “So fast….?? Let me think.” On a different Facebook post, someone else admitted, “I’m shocked.”
A netizen who might not have read the actual article wrote, “Good for her! I’m genuinely happy for them.” Still, another deviated from the baby news, instead focusing on Gomez’s age, “Selena Gomez is older than me? Wow!
“Two more fans somehow thought the actress’ news was linked to an ex. One person stated, “we all knew this was coming as soon as jb and hailey announced their pregnancy ahahahah omg she’s so desperate.”
Another reader said, “It’s all because of Justin Bieber…” What the two netizens were referring to was the news that Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey, were expecting their first child together.
On May 9, 2024, Hailey uploaded an Instagram video of her and Justin seemingly exchanging vows while she sported a big baby bump. The rest of the post was pictures of the singer photographing his wife and the pair kissing and posing together.
Later in the month, on May 24, 2024, Justin uploaded several images on his Instagram showing his pregnant wife and himself, writing, “They wish baby, they wish.” It appears some of Justin’s fans think Selena Gomez was retaliating against him.
They believed she touched on the topic of having wanted to adopt just because her ex was expecting a child. The timing of her interview seems to make netizens think she’s trying to one-up Hailey’s husband.

However, during Gomez’s interview, she opened up about her relationship with Blanco and where she sees it going. She revealed that when they met, she saw him as a friend. The producer wasn’t on her radar at all.
This led her to ask him if he knew someone he could set her up with! Blanco honored her request by bringing Gomez to a birthday party where he introduced her to his friend. That’s when it clicked to the actress that she liked the songwriter.
She confirmed this by stating, “It just happens when you least expect it.” During the interview, the singer’s work addressing what is called a “loneliness epidemic” also came up. The star admitted that it was hard dealing with it and she still struggles.
Gomez also tackled feelings in general. As a stickler for people feeling their feelings, she said having a partner was a “little irrelevant” to what she feels but only because he isn’t her “only source of happiness.”
Gomez explained that she was alone for five years and got used to it. She noted how she had torturous mental talks for two of those years before “kind of” accepting it. However, she was aware that, like her at one point, many people fear being alone.
This perspective on solitude contrasts with her current relationship. During a recent interview with Howard Stern, Blanco gave some insight into his relationship with the actress. He confessed that he wanted to marry Gomez and have children with her!
When her interviewer brought this up, Gomez laughed at her boyfriend’s inability to lie, and how he always answered questions directly. However, having years of experience in the industry, she was more cautious with how she responded to such sensitive inquiries.
The songstress tackled them differently because she knew what people could do to those she loved. She revealed that her own fans, who she adored and felt had shaped her into the woman she is, still say the “most hurtful things.” This has fuelled her need to be more cautious about what she lets out there.
But what made Blanco different was that he wasn’t fazed by any criticism. The star revealed that she found that ability impressive and that she cherishes each moment with her boyfriend. She admitted to not knowing what would happen in the future but said she knew he was staying put.
