Superstar Céline Dion wowed the world with a majestic performance during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics on Friday. It was an emotional comeback and the French-Canadian singer’s first musical appearance in four years.
Wearing a dazzling white Dior dress, the 56-year-old performed a breathtaking rendition of “L’Hymne à l’amour” (“Hymn to Love”) from the Eiffel Tower, leaving many speechless and drawing admiration for her strength.
Dion struggles with stiff person syndrome, a diagnosis she announced to the public in December 2022. The autoimmune and neurological disorder causes painful cramps and makes walking difficult.
It wasn’t just the spectators in Paris who were impressed.
“Céline Dion is so inspiring, she sounds incredible and beautiful!” said one commenter on social media. “She never gives up.”
“After everything she’s been through, this is so wonderful and beautiful to see,” said another user. “Céline Dion. An inspiration.”
Speculation that Dion would sing at the Paris Games began earlier this week after she landed in Paris. The “Because You Loved Me” singer was spotted outside the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris on Tuesday, signing autographs and waving to fans.
